Ten Kinds Of Newborn Baby Clothes You'll Need

By Paula Heron

Waiting for the arrival of your new baby is an exciting time and a time of preparation. The nursery needs to be decorated, the crib chosen and of course what newborn baby clothes will be needed for the first few weeks.

Now that there are stores like Babies r Us where every item you could possibly need to welcome your new home is available there is no need to trudge around lots of stores. And increasingly, more and more parents are using the internet to buy the necessary baby goods.

When you think about the necessary equipment you need for your baby you immediately think of car seat, stroller and crib. But of equally there is also the question of what basic baby clothes will you need for the first few weeks? And how many of each item do you need?

Whether you are buying baby boy clothes or baby girl clothes there is no specified number of each garment that is essential. It is important to have enough of the basic baby clothes for a day or two so that you don't have to be constantly worrying about having to do the laundry every day.

Practical baby clothes are all that your newborn and you need in the early weeks there will be plenty of time for the more trendy baby clothes when you've both got the hang of this dressing business! Below is a list of ten items considered essential for a new baby.

* 5-10 onesies - you may want more, the plain ones are great under tops and pants and there are some really cute ones for the warmer weather.

* Use baby one piece sleeper suits in the first few weeks during the day - you'll need 5-10 of these.

* For use during those night-time diaper changes, have 4-5 baby gowns because they make the job a lot easier.

* 5-10 bibs - although babies don't take solid food they do have a tendency to drool and spit up.

* Lots of burp cloths - these are a must if you don't want to have to change your clothes as often as you change the baby's.

* Socks: 5 pairs to protect against cold no matter how air conditioned or heated the house is.

* Decide which type of hat matches the weather you're likely to experience and get two of them.

* 1 coat, appropriate to the weather and season where you live.

* Make drying baby easier by having two or three hooded baby towels.

* Avoid the scratches that babies are so good at inflicting on themselves by having at least two pairs of cotton mittens.

Every baby's needs and habits are different so the list of newborn baby clothes above cannot be exact. In particular, the frequency with which you wish to change your baby will add or subtract from the numbers. Nevertheless, I recommend that you use the list as a general guide to make the jobs of diaper changing and baby dressing as simple as possible, then add to it any additional outfits that you want for special occasions. - 22783
